Originally published in France in two volumes as Persepolis 1 and Persepolis 2 by L'Association, Paris. A New York Times Notable Book and a Time Magazine Best Comix Of the Year. Wise, funny, and heartbreaking, Persepolis is the author's memoir of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. She tells the story of her life in Tehran, ages 6 to 14, years that saw the overthrow of the Shah's regime, the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, and the devastating effects of war with Iraq. She is the great granddaughter of one of Iran's last emperors. Her parents were committed Marxists. The book's contents are in black and white comic strip format-- pictures of people and their dialogues in cartoon balloons. 153 pages.
