The Complete Film Scores. Scores were created as background for a documentary that would present a project to communities surrounding the Tennessee River. The Tennessee Valley Authority was commissioned by the federal government to solve the growing electrical shortage in the southern states. They finally decided to damn the Tennessee River and build a hydroelectric plant. This would result in displacement for many people. This is when Virgil Thompson was commissioned to prepare this music.
